U-value CalculatorAre you on target for Part L?
For his latest addition to ‘The Bald Facts’ playlist, Head of Technical Rob Warren takes a look over the Three Construction B’s to look out for in 2017.
An R-value is the resistance value of particular components in construction and includes materials such as plasterboard, brick or insulation. It tells you how well these components insulate against heat and is determined by thickness. Adding them all together gives you an understanding of how well the construction will stop the heat escaping.
Although rigid insulation such as Celotex does a fantastic job of keeping your home warm in the winter months, it isn’t the nicest stuff to handle sometimes. Here is just a very quick 30 second snapshot video showing you a couple of PPE items to consider when handling insulation.

IMPORTANT: On 1 September 2017, Celotex took the precautionary measure to temporarily suspend the supply of Celotex FR5000, Celotex CG5000, Celotex CF5000 and Celotex SL5000 while we investigate the results of recent tests (Parts 6 and 7 of British Standard 476). Cavity Wall full-fill Product Innovation for Celotex is shortlisted for The Building Awards 2016
As a company that leads the way in technological innovations, Celotex filled a huge gap in the market with the introduction of Celotex CF5000. Developed with a clear focus on maximising thermal efficiency with thinner solutions, the new and innovative CF5000 system gives architects, designers and specifiers the whole picture for full fill cavity wall applications.
Instead of choosing commercial value or performance, housebuilders using CF5000 can have both.
Cavity Wall (brick/block) is the predominant build method for the UK housing industry with 70% of 27.4 million homes built with cavity walls.
The change to Part L1a in 2013 (which sets the guidelines for new residential house builds) brought a second compliance metric, Fabric Energy Efficiency Standard (FEES).
As a result of these requirements the fabric of the building needed to be more robust, with better insulation, reduced air leakage and improved thermal bridging.
The ultimate goal: the homeowner to switch the heating on less.
In addition, we have recently identified a compliance issue relating to our calculation and testing of the declared lambda value of products in the 4000 and 5000 ranges and the Crown-Bond and Crown-Fix products within the Crown Flat Roofing range. Due to this issue, the suspension of the 5000 range will continue and now includes the FI5000 and GD5000 products. Materials relating to the 5000 range products are for information only. Please note that all products in the TB4000, GA4000 below 100mm, PL4000 and CW4000 ranges manufactured after 15 December 2017 will be marketed from January as Celotex 3000 with a declared lambda value of 0.023 W/mK.
