It’s been a busy and productive year at Celotex, with production on the rise and good weather seeing us busy right up to Christmas. Here are 14 (see what we did there) of Celotex’ highlights from 2014!

1. Insulating Britain

The Insulating Britain campaign simplified the changes to the UK Building Regulations and how they impacted the industry. The roadshow was a huge success with our campaign stretching the length and breadth of the country, reaching out to key Celotex Insulation Specialists Insulating Britainindustry leaders while turning a few heads along the way. The journey enabled Celotex to provide architects, specifiers, distributors, merchants and contractors with the latest updates and information on how to simplify compliance as well as provide expert advice and guidance.

2. All Aboard! The Celotex Bus.

So, let’s get a bit more specific. Insulating Britain involved a roadshow, but what did that involve? Well, it was quite literally a show on the road. In March of 2014 Celotex toured the UK on a double decker bus, stopping at 50 major towns and cities over the course of 3 months, with one aim; to educate the industry on the Building Regulation changes that came into force. The Celotex Insulating Britain Roadshow started at Ecobuild running through to late May, and was a roaring success. If you missed the tour, don’t worry! 3. EcoBuild 2014

Right, on to the next highlight. We can’t recap 2014 without mentioning Ecobuild, which as always, wasCelotex Insulation Specialists Ecobuild a superb success for the Celotex team. Ecobuild is the world’s leading event for sustainable design, construction, energy and the build environment. Ecobuild kicked off our brand new roadshow and was the first stop for the Celotex bus and the first time anyone had set eyes on it.

4. Celotex RS5000

2014 also saw Celotex launch its newest member of the product family, Celotex RS5000, which is specifically designed for rainscreen cladding applications. Celotex RS5000, the latest addition to the ‘5000’ series, meets the performance criteria in BR 135 and is therefore suitable for buildings above 18 metres;  a first for PIR! Key features of RS5000 include:

  • Tested to BS 8414-2:2005, meets the requirements in BR 135 and the first PIR insulation suitable for rainscreen cladding applications above 18  metres in height
  • Features Class O fire performance
  • Has a super low lambda value of 0.021 W/mK
  • Achieves an ‘A+’ rating when compared to the BRE Green Guide
  • Designed to enhance the thermal performance of insulated façade systems
  • Can be used as sheathing to warm steel frame constructions or fixed directly to masonry for overcladding applications.

5. Charity Golf Day

The annual Celotex Charity Golf day was, as ever, a huge and successful fun filled day with some impressive golfing up for display. The occasional golf ball swaying into the shrubbery but in general, performances Celotex Charity Golf Daywere notable. Held at the Puckrup Golf Club, Tewkesbury, the day provided a great opportunity to get together and have an enjoyable, if not a little competitive, day on the golf course. Winners of the event were rightfully rewarded with the prestigious Celotex Golf Trophy, following an impressive Rory McIlroy-esque performance on the golf course. Awards were presented by Allan McNish throughout the course of the evening ceremony with some superb food and entertainment provided.

Most importantly, we raised a staggering £5000 for our two company charities, Help for Heroes and Macmillan Cancer.

6. The RCI Show

Targeting the roofing, cladding and insulation industry ranging through specification to completion and everything in between, Celotex attended the RCI Show 2014 bringing an impactful stand and a Celotex team to assist the visitors of the event. The two day event at The Ricoh Arena, Coventry, saw big players in the industry come to share information and news with visitorsCelotex Roofing Cladding & Insulation Show and introduce products and services. Celotex, complete with a brand new large installation, introduced its latest product Celotex RS5000 which was a hit at the show. Several enquiries were taken and the spirit was high amongst this new addition to the strong product range.
Highlights of the two days included three separate presentations from Head of Technical, Rob Warren and Area Sales Manager, Jon Roper. The first, discussing, ‘Celotex Part L 2013, Simplifying Compliance’, the second looking at, ‘Rainscreen Cladding Solutions’ followed by the final presentation about, ‘The Quest For Zero Carbon’. Why does it matter?’ All presented brilliantly with audiences engaged in topic.


Another highlight of the year included the RIBA Guerrilla Tactics event which we attended in November. Titled, ‘Archi-preneurs’, the event was designed to develop must-have business skills, offering an essential guide for small practices on how to make the most of their nimbleness. Celotex embraced this opportunity to share with eager and enthusiastic architects and maintain our UK leading manufacturer of high performance PIR insulation boards, status. With the event attended by hundreds, it allowed us to do just that.

Attendees were able to talk specification with our Specification Manager to get an idea of how Celotex could benefit projects, take some of our literature and request a product sample or two.

8. Website Updates

We have made significant progress with our website, and continue to develop the Celotex site into an easily accessible and entirely useful tool for our online visitors. We have listened, over the course of the last year, to feedback and improved the overall functionality of the website and will continue to do so. 9. Technical Twitter TakeoversCelotex Insulation Technical Takeover - Key Terms and Acronyms

The Technical Twitter Takeovers continued throughout the year, covering topics of complete variation. From, Acronyms to Conversions, Cladding to Cavity Wall and a little bit of Part L along the way, this year has included a great number of takeovers covering a broad scope of topics. Any questions that you might have over the course of the year, don’t hesitate to pop #AskCelotex in a tweet and send it to us, and we will send you back a reply. That’s right folks. We’ll be back in 2015!

10. Health and Safety Improvements

We have also made impressive strides in terms of our health and safety throughout Celotex. With the help of Saint-Gobain and a dedicated team that are passionate about making improvements in this area, we have transformed in-house practises to a standard that will set us up for a bright and safe future in manufacturing. Our policy of continuous development is what will drive us forward in to maintaining and strengthening our health and safety status.

11. Webinar 2014

Early December brought the ever popular Celotex Webinar which encompassed the topic, ‘The Route to Zero Carbon’. Phil Clark (chair) was joined by an expert panel from the Zero Carbon Hub, Celotex and H + H UK Ltd, to find out about the journey Zero Carbon has taken to date, where we are now and how we can achieve the government’s 2016 target. 12. Record staff numbers

Celotex have recently grown staff levels and remain a leading employer in local town of Hadleigh. 2014 saw Celotex surpassing 200 employees. We are grateful to a superb workforce.

13. Building Roundtable Event

Titled, ‘Much Ado About Zero’, the four page report in Building Magazine looked into whether or not zero carbon is a lost cause. Building assembled some of the leading lights in the sustainable construction field for a roundtable, which was sponsored by Celotex, to discuss the delay in new Part L Regulations, why a host of projects were exempt from the standard and the cloud hanging over a zero carbon ‘definition’. 14. The Construction Marketing AwardsCelotex Construction Marketing Awards Winner

A considerable highlight of 2014 was our recognition gained during the Construction Marketing Awards 2014. Celotex was shortlisted for five separate awards which was a superb achievement in itself, and were delighted to win ‘Best Social Media Campaign 2014’. This was credit and testament to the superb efforts of the Celotex team during the insulating Britain Roadshow. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we were also highly commended for Marketing Team of the Year. A superb effort from the marketing team and thank you to all those that have had an input into these successes.
